Session Overview

The Session Overview below is provided as a courtesy to those who prefer to read than listen, yet on each call additional insights are given which round out the subject.

Heart Balance Qigong Basic Exercises
This is a call that you will want to listen to in order to understand the simple exercises involved.

The exercises are simple to perform, some almost without movement except for breathing. Others are slightly more active.

The more developed exercises will be saved for another time when the video can be coupled with the presentation.

What is Qigong?
Qigong means "the movement of life energy". This "energy" (Qi) is the same as the energy that flows though the galaxies and solar systems, and vitalizes all life in existence. It expresses the spirit or soul within all. It is a significant component of  life born from the "Unified Field" or Spirit-That-Moves-Through-All-Things.

Qi is closely associated to the meridians in Acupuncture because they act as channels for the chi, but Qi is much more than meridian flow.

Qi circulates around and through the body similar to the ways that:

  1.  electrical energy circulates through the nerves,
  2.  lymph circulates through the lymphatic system,
  3.  and blood circulates through the veins.

Qi is more subtle than these three, and therefore more foundational to overall health. Qi forms the basis of our constitutional strength.

As our health deteriorates, life energy either diminishes or circulates erratically. Building the life energy through simple chi exercises improves the most basic foundations of good health - the vitalizing Qi that enlivens every organ, gland and cell.

Heart Balance Qigong concentrates the building of Qi in the heart. The principle is, since the heart energy is the governor, regulator, and balancing point between all circulating energies of the body - both physical and energetic - by building chi in the heart, the balance of energy, and therefore health, throughout the body will be upgraded and maintained.

Much like physical exercise is required to move lymphatic fluids through the lymphatic system, Qigong-type exercises increase the circulation of Qi around and through the body.

How long do I exercise?
The exercises taught during this conference call will allow anyone, regardless of their level of health, to build Qi to increasing levels within 10 -15 minutes. Working at it longer is possible but noticeable results can be achieved within the first few minutes.

How are the basic exercises performed?
The exercises can be performed standing, sitting or lying down. They can easily be performed even by those who are hardly able to move a muscle - and with surprising success!

Listen to this conference call and enjoy the vitalizing power of Qi!

Update to provide a written description of two additional Qi-building standing postures that can easily be described without pictures (until I make the video on the more complex moves).

The purpose of suggesting these two are due to their simplicity and power at grounding, clearing, and building constitutional strength.

These two stances are stationary positions anyone can perform (even sitting down or lying down, if need be) that move Qi up the body first, then down the body in ways that clear stagnant energy from the feet to above the head, and from above, back down to the feet and below.

The net result is an opening and clearing of the three dantiens; lower (just below the naval), middle (at the heart), and upper (in the head between the eyes), which builds constitutional strength, improves mental focus, and opens the heart.

These are stationary standing postures with heels together and toes comfortably apart, arms down by the sides straight. (I call this the penguin posture. I am sure there are other names for it. It is a well known posture for Qi movement.)

First Qi Movement Exercise: Rest palms flat on the side of each thigh, as if you are standing in attention, only not rigid, just comfortably relaxed. Fingers touching each other.

Feel the Qi rise from the center of the earth up the spine to above your head. This will be a gradual movement that builds and climbs over time.

Simply hold this standing posture as you feel the Qi climb.

Begin to take deep breaths, pausing after the exhale a few seconds each time until you simply feel like breathing in again, then fill your lungs to full capacity again and exhale comfortably, then pause after the exhale until you feel like breathing in again.

Repeat this breathing sequence for several minutes, whether breathing through the nose or mouth, it does not matter, just breathe.

Notice how the Qi will move up to a point in the body then stagnate there until the breath clears the static energy being held there.

As the tension or feeling of blockage releases, you will feel a sense of lightness, tingling, coolness, and openness in that spot. Then the Qi will continue to rise until it empowers the heart and brain in the same fashion.

This might take 5 minutes or more. When you feel complete, switch your hands to the next posture and begin again, only this time receiving Qi from the heavens.

Second Qi Movement Exercise: Turn palms up while the arms are still down by the sides in a comfortable resting position.

Repeat the same breathing process described above, only this time mentally welcome Universal Qi to flow from above all the way down the spine to below the feet.

Take your time, breathing through each sense of blockage until it releases and the flow passes through.

As the Qi reaches the feet (after 5 or more minutes) visualize it continuing until it connects with the very center of the earth. You are connecting heaven and earth here, balancing and grounding yourself on earth.

Notice how open your heart feels, how alive and tingly your body feels, and how much lighter overall you feel now.

These two simple Qigong exercises can be used to begin and end the day with very little effort, yet with a noticeable empowerment of energy and vitality building inside with every minute of practice.

Enjoy!
