CC-April 14, 2010 - Sleepless Nights and Allergies
________________________________________________________________________________
2 Minute Session Overview
The Session Overview below is provided as a courtesy to those who prefer to read than listen, yet on each call additional insights are given which round out the subject.
The Common Thread between Insomnia and Allergies
A. Both insomnia and allergies are generally caused by adrenal exhaustion (resulting in both high and low cortisol levels, high or low blood sugar levels and diminished ability to produce antihistamines - the allergy fighters).
Several factors work together to wear the adrenal glands down:
1) Stress (the adrenals are one of the body's main stress responders)
2) Sugar and other concentrated sweeteners (both natural and artificial)
3) Regular use of caffeinated beverages (especially coffee and green/black tea) which also wear out the nervous system
4) Candida overgrowth caused initially by:
a. the first dose of antibiotics ever taken (even as an infant)
b. immunization shots laden with mercury (Thimerosol)
c. silver/mercury amalgam tooth fillings
d. drinking and cooking with chlorinated water
e. playing with mercury as a child
f. exposure to farm and garden chemicals (pesticides, herbicides)
5) Candida is subsequently worsened by such things as:
a. the use of concentrated sweeteners on a regular basis (like agave, honey, cane sugar, xylitol, barley malt, high fructose corn syrup, etc.)
- especially when combined with an oil or a fat
- especially when combined with an acid drink like coffee or fruit juice
- especially when combined with dairy products (i.e. latte)
- especially when combined with a bread or grain (i.e. a pastry)
b. the consumption of fried foods (like chips or french fries)
c. taking birth control pills
d. high consumption of nuts and nut butters
e. daily use of eggs
f. the use of most vinegars
g. consuming any soy product (over-estrogenates the body)
h. a diet low in cultured or fermented foods
i. a general acid condition in the body (shoot for 7.0pH saliva and urine midday)
j. the removal of the appendix (where probiotics are manufactured in the gut)
6) General environmental toxicity and many other factors play into the stresses placed on our adrenal glands.
B. Clearly improving adrenal function is central to improving sleep. Several factors build adrenal strength through simple nourishment:
1) High intake of whole earthen mineral resources:
Mineral Manna (AM use)
Ancient Mineral Blend (AM & PM use)
Sacred Clay (AM & PM use)
Ormalite (AM & PM use)
Vitallite (AM use)
See also the recorded conference call about our Clay Water Mineral Drink.
2) Daily consumption of SBO's, super-food greens (that feed the SBO's) and fermented foods:
Earth & Sea Greens or Pure Greens & Fiber (also helps to maintain a 7.0pH)
Home cultured whey from raw goat or cow's milk
Sauerkraut
Non-soy based miso
Raw milk kefir
Water kefir
Coconut water kefir
Coconut water vinegar (a cultured product)
Cultured Papaya
3) Herbal adaptogenic support
Rejuvenation for Women or Rejuvenation for Men
with small amounts of Licorice root powder (1 teaspoon or less over the course of a day).
C. Now, a formula for deep restful sleep (providing that the adrenals are functioning above a state of extreme exhaustion, which is the purpose of the daytime rebuilding program): This list is modified from the audio discussion due to the energizing property of Vitallite (which is in Mineral Manna and Earthen Ormus).
Not all of these are required for a decent night's rest but these are included in my favorite nighttime ritual. I also like to improve the quality of my air intake, opening sinus and respiratory passages with:
These help to reduce the incidence of snoring by shrinking swollen mucus membranes and opening the air passageways and (in a roundabout way) improve the quality of your sleep.
As the kidneys build in strength, they also return to normal urinary functioning. Getting up in the middle of the night becomes a less and less frequent event.
Day Calm & Deep Sleep is also an excellent support system for easily getting back to sleep in the event you do get up in the night.
So improving the diet, addressing the stresses and stressors in your life and taking a daily regimen of herbal builders including Deep Sleep and Kidney & Adrenal Builder is the holistic way to address both sleepless nights and allergies.
